Team-Building Philosophy

When I look to form my teams, I look for individuals who are talented and experienced in areas where the current team is not. This is to create a variety of different perspectives and skill sets within my team since I’ve found this allows us to consider all sides and solutions to a challenge as well as be equipped to tackle a wider breath of challenges.

An important point to note about this approach is that bridging differences is essential. Finding people with high EQ will smooth over the disparities in operating styles that come with having a diverse team. To help ensure team cohesion, another useful trait to screen for is a similarity of motivations and goals. Having a high EQ team with a shared goal will help your team recognize and celebrate their differences as unique strengths that each team member contributes towards reaching the team’s goal.

This team formation strategy is influenced heavily by my priorities and values as a leader. I’ve made it a goal to bring together and bridge the gaps between people of diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and perspectives. Stemming largely from my belief in the potential of teamwork, I take great satisfaction in forming an effective team that is well-equipped to face its challenges.
